![]() Unfortunately replacing the DPF can be very expensive with genuine Mazda filters costing in anywhere from £1500 - £3000 for a genuine high quality unit, and of course this new filter will at some point block again. If the filter does not regenerate successfully the DPF will continue to block, when the blockage becomes excessive the ECU will place the vehicle into limp mode (reduced power) and the engine light will also be illuminated, on some models the traction control light will also be switched on. It may be possible to unblock the filter by driving the vehicle on the motorway at a steady speed with medium to high engine revs, these driving conditions are required for the ECU to initiate regeneration (self-clean mode). The DPF is a filter located in the exhaust system and is used to filter out soot particles from the exhaust gasses. The DPF light flashes on the Mazda when the ECU (Engine Control Unit) registers that the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is beginning to block.
